As you know, at Milkyway.Games we love to do things by ourself. We love Games, cryptocurrency and good music.

In the play to steal world where monkeys can loot your village at any time you need to feel a little bit insecure and primitive.

I this article I will give you the secret of monkey songs.

Where the Inspiration come from?

CryptoMonkey Empire is an adventure where you build your own village, create an army and attack other players to steal their cryptocurrencies.

To be simple, it is apes world war. You can come from nothing and become one of the most powerful and richest monkey.

So, what about music? How to translate feelings in music, how to create this war atmosphere?

The rhythm

Rhythm is one of most important parameters to identify a music style. As you might know if you listen to old-school Hip-hop Music the BPM (beat per minute) is around 90.

Here you can have a look at different style of musics and their BPMs.

GENRE BPM
Hip Hop 85–95 BPM
Glitch Hop 105–115 BPM
Techno 120–125 BPM
House 115–130 BPM
Electro 128 BPM
Dubstep 140 BPM (with a half time, 70 BPM feel)
Drum and Bass 174 BPM

Create an atmosphere

The second important thing I would like to introduce you is : the atmosphere, the ambiance. To produce gameplay music you need to know exactly what you want to do before creating, it’s a process. CryptoMonkey Empire is an Apes games, so I wanted to feel the jungle around me, I want to ear savage animals. If I close my eyes I need to feel a bit in this natural dangerous space.

There is two way to produce this part of the song. First you can use a sample but you need to be sure that you are allowed to use it (Cf; copyright). In addition, I like to record real sounds to create my own sound design. It’s very simple : take a microphone, a computer and use whatever you have that can make adequate sounds and mix it to your sample. It could be a simple paper noise or the sound of the grass under your hand.

Be creative, and let your imagination decide.

The chords, the lead and the bass

Now that you have your rhythm and your atmosphere you need to find a couple of chords.

If you are beginner I suggest you to copy a song you like. What I mean is that most of the famous top songs are using the same chords.

Here you have a great view of the common Keys and Chord Progressions. I will not go further  in the music theory but I encourage you to check a few courses about it to elevate your skills.

Then when you have your chords you need to find a melody. Try to find something that sticks on your head, it is the best way to make it viral.

Song’s structure

Most of the time a standard song will be composed of :

  • Intro
  • Verse
  • Chorus
  • Bridge
  • Solo

Most of the pop songs have the same song structure.

“A typical song structure includes a verse, chorus, and bridge in the following arrangement: intro, verse — chorus — verse — chorus —bridge — chorus — outro. This is known as an ABABCB structure, where A is the verse, B is the chorus and C is the bridge.”
